The weather is cooling down and the leaves are beginning to fall. Let’s put on a pot of soup and cozy up with the Fall decorating trends for 2021-22. With all the changes this year has delivered, our living spaces have become more like schools, gyms, and offices. It’s time to reclaim our cozy space and snuggle up.

It’s not fall without textures, wood, metals, floral

This trend is about personal spark and authentic imperfections. With so much time at home this year, we have seen creative accessories that include handmade art, embroidered pillows, handcrafted ceramics, and paintings to show off your personal talents.

Fabric

The fabric trend this fall is Velvet, Velvet made its debut in the 1970s, no one knows who invented the fabric or where it came from but it is back in all its glory this year. It is the perfect fabric for fall with its plush, irresistible feel, perfect for creating a fall-ready ambiance that is ever so cozy.

Dark Blues and Marron seem to be the color favorites dressed up with pillows and blankets for an extra layer of snuggle.

Floral

The floral trend is white, greens, and browns with touches of yellow, orange, and red in November. These can be changed out again in the winter with purple, red, and dark blues to keep the rustic feel while bringing the season change indoors.

Florals through the house will direct the eye to showcase an area, they are not just for centerpieces anymore.

Try mixing some distressed metals into your floral arrangements.

Bring elegance and dimension to any area by adding candles, mix sizes to offer depth in your arrangement. Add them to your fireplace, entry table, and patio, the options are endless.

Textures

Use lanterns, lots of lanterns, mix them up by texture and designs. Wood slates next to distressed metal and a sleek ceramic.  Use different heights and bundle in groups of 3. Show-stopping!

The front porch is my all-time favorite to really show off and welcome guests. On the front porch or patio, Be Bold. Large cobalt blue lantern with different sized wood and metal lanterns beside it.

Colors

Blue is the hottest color this fall, all shades of blue, so you really can’t go wrong. You can select from Turquoise to Navy and anything in between. Blue is timeless and elegant and looks lovely with natural tones.

Just envision the way the ocean looks against the white beaches and palm trees.

Wow, God really is the Most Magnificent Designer. I am in awe of his work.

More Decorative Ideas

When pulling out your chunky sweaters and scarves, don’t forget to change out your blankets and throws. Big weave blankets with earth tones add so much warmth to a room and leave you feeling relaxed. Creamy white and soft browns are always a big hit with pops of color coming from your pillow selections.  Don’t forget to use the blues.

Open floor plans were all the rage but this trend is fading fast, as we have all found that there really isn’t any personal space in the open concept for our newfound office, gym, and classroom.

Partitions and room dividers are a beautiful addition to create a separate space for the day-to-day and can be easily removed when needed. When making your selection be sure to stay with the natural elements.

If you have been watching then you already know that gold accents including hardware are back in.

I know some people are reluctant to ditch the stainless steel and brushed nickel in hopes it will come back but I am here to tell you it’s not coming back. The shift to gold and brass is here to stay, at least for the next 10 years.

Recap

So, the soup should be ready now and before we dig in, let’s recap.

Textures, Metals, Natural Tones, and Shades of Blue are the trends for 2021 and 2022.

Grays and whites are fading but can easily be incorporated into the new trends with a few simple changes.

If you are looking to upgrade your home for an upcoming listing or just want advice on decorating, I would love to help you.
